The Book of Questions: Question 35

Monday, April 30, 2012

Good day, readers! I ask that you please bare with me, as my finals week starts tomorrow. I can barely believe my first year of college is about over! Crazy. Anyway, to hold you over, here's another question...

If you haven't seen my The Book of Questions feature before, here's what it's all about:

I take a question from this book written by Gregory Stock, Ph.D., write my response, and ask for your response.

This is the 10th question I'm asking you all and the 35th in the book.

QUESTION 35:
Would you give up half of what you now own for a pill that would permanently change you so that one hour of sleep each day would fully refresh you?

MY RESPONSE:
No! I love to sleep!

FOLLOW-UP QUESTION:
Do you feel you have enough time? If not, what would give you that feeling? How much has your attitude about time changed as you've aged?

MY RESPONSE:
Sometimes, I feel like don't have enough time in the day. Sometimes, I feel like I need many, many more hours to finish what I want finished. Other times, I feel like the day has been stretched out too long. I don't know.

What gives me that feeling? On the "short" days, it's usually the amount of activities, classes, and meetings I have to do in a given day. Procrastination can also make time seem very short. On those long days, I think being close to the weekends affects how I look at the time. Weekends can't come soon enough. Also, if I've been doing an activity for a long time, I feel like time is going by slowly.

As I've aged...pause. I haven't really aged much. I'm still rather young, but I've learned this: Time truly is precious. Any moment could be the end of my life. ANY moment. I don't have time for games. Every breath is another chance to live. We cannot take that fact lightly because there are those who don't have another chance at all. Time is precious, and we may not always be a part of it, so don't take it for granted.
Also, you can't "make" time for something. People say stuff like "I'm making time for this." or "I'll make time for you." No. Time is already here. There isn't less or more of it (unless it's Daylight Savings Time). It's just here, so you can't make or create anymore. What I've learned is that one must TAKE time to do things. Yes, take time. It's here, so I take it to do whatever needs to be done. That's it.

Now, what's YOUR RESPONSE?!...or comments/questions you have on my response?

have you ever gotten in a fight with someone and they do the clapping thing with every word?  it's so bad girls club i love it.  i once got in a fight with a young girl who thought just because she was louder than me meant she was right...she didn't win...i was her boss bitch.

kim jong il bb is adorable of course.  if i had an asian baby i would TOTALLY do this to it.  pretty much when i have a child it should be understood that it will be my living doll.  deal with it bb.  they are so cute why wouldn't you want to dress them up as little adults.  i think the cutest babies are the ones who look like little adults shrunken down.  EXCEPT for white babies.  damn white babies just look like phil collins.  not good.
 I FEEL YOU GURL.

this summer i just want to be a teen witch.  pretty much i have always wanted to dress like a teen witch.  i am not sure how i feel about round glasses though.  i know they are trendy but they kind of look dopey and i know they would look really bad on me.  this chick is like a mix of BK and austin.   my only hesitation with the teen witch look is that i live in miami which is hotter than hell most days.  also i would need to do a wardrobe overhaul.  some days i wish i wasn't a teacher.  i want to be able to wear whatever the FUCK i want to wear you know?  don't tell me what i can't do!

Lastly...
i care about love :)

My Instagram Experience

Monday, April 16, 2012

How are my favorite readers doing today? I hope you all are doing exceptionally well.

I'm going to put up my first Instagram post. Today, I have selected twelve pictures from my account. Not all of these photos were taken by my iPhone, but all of the photos were taken by me, so don't steal them. That's an order. =)

Okay. So first off, these shoes are amazing. These are my Steve Madden Vaneza Gold Glitter Pumps. I get many compliments when I wear them. Why wouldn't I? They're fabulous!
I have had these babies for over 6 years. I either got them in 5th grade or 7th grade, and they're still going strong. Back when I wore these in 5th (or 7th) grade, people would call me "Funky Feet." Not because my feet smelled, but I guess these Chucks kind of look retro. Of course, "Funky Feet" had to go, and since I don't know the exact name for these Chucks, I simply call them my "Retro Converses."
This is a photo of my father (right) and a man from my church (left). We were at some sort of gathering and tricycles were there to ride. I thought it was cute to see my father and this man riding the tricycles. After all, adults are kids at heart. =)
I took this photo while on a Disney cruise. It's a mini sculpture of Mickey Mouse looking at himself in the mirror, but drawing/painting Walt Disney, which implies that Mickey Mouse is Walt Disney. Cool stuff.
I took this photo about a month ago during my layover in Baltimore, Maryland. I don't do coffee. This amazing drink is a Venti Soy Chai Latte. It warmed my soul.
I took this photo in Orlando, Florida the night before I went on a Disney cruise. I call this photo "Falling Chandelier."
I shot this candle at a restaurant called The Wave in Orlando, Florida. I'm pretty sure Disney owns the restaurant.
This is just an everyday photo of me. Ha. The typical mirror shot. I thought I should have at least one of those.
Most of you should know that the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is currently my favorite dance company. I believe I mentioned that I just saw the company perform a few weeks ago. Linda, my favorite dancer, was there and was fabulous. After the show, I bought a few things. This baseball cap is one of the said things. It is now my favorite baseball cap.
These oxfords were designed by Christian Siriano, Project Runway winner. These are the first pair of oxfords I've bought.
Few of you may know that I secretly want to go to The Art Institutes or FIT. Well, I guess it's not really a secret anymore. But anyway, I hadn't made anything in a long time, until this shirt. No worries, it's not finished yet; and I know this isn't Ai or FIT worthy. I just saw a black t-shirt, and it looked boring, so I decided to make a Nia Langley Original by cutting it up and putting some studs on it. Fun!
Remember that post I did on simple shoes? Well, these were the black ones. I got bored and figured I should design some shoes that would match the shirt I was working on. To make this Nia Langley Original, I switched the white shoelaces with new black ones, studded the shoes, and put some "gold" chains on them. Many people have expressed that they like them. What do you think?

That's all for today. Do you have any favorite photos?

The Optimist Creed: Article 2

Sunday, April 8, 2012

Hey, readers! Happy Easter! I hope you all are having a wonderful day. Meanwhile, it's time for me to do the second of ten posts of me breaking down The Optimist Creed. The creed is as follows; and today, I'm analyzing the second article.

Promise yourself...
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Many people speak negatively of other people. My weakness is complaining about some people. I'm working on it now, though. I'm trying to live by this creed, remember? Most times, when one is verbally putting someone down, he/she is doing it to make him/herself look/feel better.

Even if you're complaining about someone to someone else, you're not speaking health, happiness, or prosperity. You're complaining. Stop.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue." -Proverbs 18:21

Imagine that. You have the power to kill or revive someone. Which option seems better? I beg you chose the latter.

Personally, when I speak positively about someone, it makes me feel better. When I say something to boost someone's confidence, it boosts my confidence. When I make other people happy, it makes me happy. (Disclaimer: I'm not referring to the losing-yourself-just-to-please-others mess.)

Speak health, happiness, and prosperity to everyone because it's the right thing to do; and in the end, you'll be healthier, happier, and maybe even more prosperous.

Have a great day! Let me know if you have any thoughts!

"Expectation is the bridge to disappointment."

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

My dean said that quote above in the beginning of the first semester, and I believe you can find this quote amongst the quotes in A Supplement to My Favorite Quotes.

Man, I just don't know about this quote. It's right, but it's kind of wrong, too. I really like this quote, though. I say this all the time now as an excuse or a reason to not have expectations of certain things.

Operating under this quote can keep you safe, but at the same time, it's dangerous. Right?

Think about it.

If you don't expect anything from a situation, you won't be disappointed. But what happens when you're okay with people treating you badly because you didn't expect them to treat you well? Even worse, what happens when you're satisfied with failure because you didn't expect success?

I think we should have some sort of standard or expectation for ourselves or when it comes to things that will affect us.

It's tricky, I guess...and I guess I have nothing else to say at this point.

But, thankfully, this is a "Think on This" post, so I'd like you think about it, and comment below to let me know what you think about this quote.

"Expectation in the bridge to disappointment."

Thanks for stopping by! See you again soon. =)
