Way to be UNIQUE

Monday, February 28, 2011

Today I'll be sharing with you all 10 pictures of unique looking things I've found in the past week or so (not including the first picture). I'll describe them as I go, and feel free to click on the pictures to make them bigger.

1. First off, most of you know about my lego digital camera. It only has 3 megapixels, and holds 80 photos at one time. Very very cute and unique!

2. What is this? A sculpture? A giant paper airplane? I guess your partially right. This is actually a coffee table! Crazy right?! I'd love to sip some tea with this thing...

3. When I first saw this, I wasn't too sure what it was. Guess what. It's another table! It's called "Paint or Die but Love Me" by John Nouanesing. Pretty impressive, and very unique! I wonder how strong the table legs are though. I feel like I would be almost nervous to eat on it and just have it for show. Very interesting!

4. This looks like a pretty sweet water bottle. The KOR ONE Zen Water Hydration Vessel is uncontaminated, because it's made from Eastman Tritan™, which is free of bisphenol-A (BPA) (a leading toxin found in polycarbonate bottles), it has a "no-worry cap” that swivels open with a press of a button and a twist of the wrist, and in that cap lies a motivating message that you can only see when drinking from it. You can get this for $29.99

5. I had to throw this unique skew bookcase design in this post because I truly don't understand how the books stay up on this thing! I love the design, but that falling book in the picture makes it seem like the bookcase is useless. Either way, I wouldn't mind having one of these. I'd probably even put it in my party room simply because of the fun-vibe it kind of gives off.

6. YES! Look at this bow tie! A young man, who goes by the name of Mr. Talented, created this. I believe he attends/attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, and he rolled the dice before he put the tie together. I love it! Love love love it.

7. I don't know how I didn't see this earlier, but this is the Chanel Light Bulb Heel. Indeed, this is very unique. I'm not sure if I would actually wear the heel...well actually I might...maybe not. I don't know. Either way, it is an interesting idea.

8. This is the Zig-Zag Chair. What makes this chair so unique? It has no beginning or end! Can you see it? It's endless kind of like the infinity sign. Get it? Got it? Good. I wonder how comfortable this chair would be to sit in. I'm not too sure how that would work out haha.

9. This Nikon D700 Digital Camera Cake looks waayyy too good to actually eat. This is someone's birthday cake. Though I prefer Canons, I love seeing creative cakes (like on the show "Cake Boss"). Anyways, my love for creative cakes and cameras really makes me appreciate this cake. Yum! =)

10. This is a car. The Futuristic Egg-Shaped Car by Daniel Scotland. It's powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, and there's no steering wheel, as it will be maneuvered by a joystick-like device that's placed in front of the armrests. Scotland intended to develop this for the car brand Peugeot, but I don't know if he followed through with it.

So, that's it! I hope you enjoyed these pictures! Which one was your favorite?

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Marianne Williamson

A little piece of CHILDHOOD

Monday, February 21, 2011

Not too long ago, I found this letter I wrote to the tooth fairy.

(the back says "tooth fairy!")

Haha! Clearly, I had either really high expectations or a crazy sense of humor. I can't remember writing this letter, but somehow it brought back so many childhood memories. I began thinking about how good it was back then.

Insert "The Way We Were" by Barbra Streisand...
"Can it be that it was all so simple then?"

Haha okay. Sorry. But then, I said to myself, "What other childhood thing do I have on hand?"

And I got this...

I wore this the day of my very first Super Bowl. It's so tiny! My teddy bear can (barely) fit it. To think that I was once that small is mind-blowing.

So anyways, I just wanted to share a little piece of my childhood with you. It's always good to reminisce.

Have a good day!

Linda Celeste Sims

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Linda Celeste Sims is probably my absolute favorite company member from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The first time I saw her was when I saw the above picture in the playbill for the first Alvin Ailey show I attended. This picture somehow caused me to want to appreciate the art of dance. So, thanks Linda!

Linda Celeste Sims began her dance training at Ballet Hispanico School of Dance, and she graduated from LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts. According to Rollingout.com, she loved to dance, always wanted to be a ballerina, and music was playing in her house all the time. Linda made it into the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater after her first audition in 1996 before even going to the Ailey School.

Are you looking at her figure though? I would love to have her shape and be in that physical condition! I swear, dancers have some of the best bodies. Anyways, she says she stays fit by going to the gym, swimming, and cycling. She eats everything in moderation, and gets facials and massages to keep her skin beautiful.

Linda's husband, Glenn Allen Sims, is also an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater member.

According to alvinailey.org, Linda was awarded by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in 1994. She has been highlighted in the “Best of 2009” list in Dance Magazine, and has performed as a guest star on “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Dancing with the Stars”, and “The Today Show.” She has appeared at the Youth America Grand Prix, Vail International Dance Festival, andgalas in Budapest and Vienna. In 2010, she appeared at the White House in the September of 2010 to tribute Judith Jamison at First Lady Michelle Obama's Dance Workshop.

In the June of 2010, Linda was named Assistant to the Rehearsal Director. Clearly, Linda Celeste Sims is very beautiful, very talented, and an inspiration to many. She is also still young, so I expect her to continue dancing for a long time.

"Be who you are, and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

Thursday, February 3, 2011

That quote from Dr. Seuss is part of the header for NIA SPEAKS, and that is what I will be talking about starting...NOW!

I'm gonna break this post down into 3 categories:
CATEGORY ONE- Be who you are.
CATEGORY TWO- Say what you feel.
CATEGORY THREE- Figure out who matters and who doesn't.

Easy right? Okay. Let's get started.

CATEGORY ONE- Be who you are.
"Be yourself. Everything else is already taken." -Oscar Wilde
I think it is SOOOOO important for people to stay true to themselves. I'm sure you have heard it all before, but no one else exists in the world who is just like you. So why not give the world a different flavor of person? (Did that flavor thing make sense?) Anyways, it really doesn't make sense to me why people try to act like something they're not. I mean, I understand the slight issue when someone is trying to find him/herself, or someone might not be comfortable with him/herself, but overall, everyone is unique, everyone is special, and everyone should be themselves, because everyone is beautiful. It saddens me to see people hide themselves simply because they don't fit the images that the media is constantly pushing. Like I said, everyone is beautiful. People everywhere need to dig deep and figure out what's great about themselves. There's no need to lose yourself. Find yourself, keep yourself, and BE yourself.

CATEGORY TWO- Say what you feel.
There really shouldn't be some sort of hindrance that prevents people from saying what they want to say. I think too many people keep quiet way too often. (Disclaimer: I do think there are times when certain remarks or questions should be withheld for the sake of the circumstance or atmosphere, but people have to be their own judge on what's appropriate.) With the exception of that disclaimer there, SAY WHAT YOU FEEL! Why not? I told you guys in my last post that I'm the type of girl who (almost) all the time says what she wants to say when it's appropriate. If I have an opinion that I want to be heard, I will make it audible. Say what you need to say, because keeping your thoughts bottled up inside isn't really the best thing for you as a person. Though it could lead to negative things being said, it's important that everyone exercises their unalienable right of the freedom of speech. SPEAK UP! Just please don't say anything too crazy that will cause a war or something. That is one of the main reasons why I started NIA SPEAKS. I wanted to be heard. I wanted to somehow get my thoughts and opinions out there, and I'm glad that this blog has given me an opportunity to do so.

CATEGORY THREE- Figure out who matters and who doesn't.
The difficult thing when it comes to saying what's on your mind is deciding who matters and who doesn't. The part of the quote that says, "those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." is my favorite part! I think that's also what got the quote to become so popular, because it's kind of true. The people who get offended that you tell the truth are the people who shouldn't matter, because obviously they can't handle what you have to say. Those who should matter to you are the ones who listen to what you have to say even if they don't agree with it. No matter what you say, there will always be at least one person who disagrees with you. I'm not saying critique is bad. It could open your eyes to help you realize something else. But if someone is always trying to shut down what you have to say, ignore them. Don't let anyone get to you or keep you from speaking up. It's your voice not theirs.

Hopefully this post has some sort of meaning to you. I just really wanted to write something about this quote. What are your thoughts on this quote?
