Tim Jackson's Amazing Quad Solo

If you read the "About Nia" section, you would know that I played the quads in a drum corp for four years. With that being said, you shouldn't be surprised that the following quad solo blows my mind every time I watch it.

I saw this video of Tim Jackson some time ago, but I just recently came across it again. It's still amazing.



It would be insanely nice if I could get on this level of awesomeness!

Simple Shoes

Hey, readers! Happy Hump Day! Don't worry, that means Wednesday. If you can make it over the hump of Wednesday, you can survive the rest of the week. Okay. Moving on...

Today, I'm gonna talk briefly about a staple category in my closet that helps me get through everyday life. Kind of...

"Tis the gift to be simple. Tis the gift to be free."

It's fairly helpful to have a group of what I call "simple shoes." These are mine. The colors are black, light blue, dark blue, pink, slate, and white. (They look like that on their heels because I shove them in a thing meant for t-shirts. I usually don't treat my shoes this way. *Shrugs*)

Usually, I'm not the one to talk about how much I paid for something, but this will be an exception. I bought these sneakers at Forever 21 for the incredible price of $5.50 per pair of shoes.

I mention the price, because some people wonder why I have so "many" of the same shoe. Why? They were cheap, and I like that. =)

But anyway, I consider these shoes essential. Do you ever have those times when you don't feel like wearing heels, boots, or oxfords? Ever had a time when a simple, comfortable shoe would do for the day? I do sometimes, and that's why these shoes are so helpful.

I don't wear these as often as I used to, but if I'm in a hurry, or just feel like being Plain Jane, I wear one of my "simple shoes." (The pink ones have received the most compliments out of them all.)

So, that's a little bit of my personal style. I'm a shoe fanatic, so you can look forward to more "Nia's Style" posts in the future.

Theresa Ruth Howard Interviews Linda Celeste Sims

If you read the "About Nia" section, you would know that my favorite dance company is the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. If you know me, you should know that my favorite dancer is Linda Celeste Sims, who happens to be a member of the company. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'd know that I did a post on Linda a little over a year ago.

Linda Celeste Sims has been a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for 16 years, and she has been without injury for the past 15 years.

Sheyi Ojofeitimi, the company's physical therapist, has said that Linda's regime of body care and maintenance is like that of an Olympian.

Theresa Ruth Howard, a ballet instructor at Ailey, said she has "marveled at Linda's technical consistency and her constant artistic growth." She goes on to say that "when you hear how deeply Linda loves dance, and loves the work of dance, it is amazing. It is only then that you understand where that dedication and commitment come from, and how it creates that consistency that we sit in awe of every time she takes the stage."

If you're new to my The Book of Questions feature thing, here's the run down: I ask a question from this book written by Gregory Stock, Ph.D., post my response, and ask for your response. It's really something sort and simple to keep the blog alive.

QUESTION 18:
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one ability or quality, what would it be?

MY RESPONSE:
I'm torn between the ability to fly, run fast, have super strength, become invisible, or extreme flexibility. Anything the Incredibles can do.

5 Kota Wisata Terbau di Dunia

Di dunia ini, ada kota yang dinobatkan sebagai kota paling romantis (Paris), kota tersibuk (New York) atau kota terkecil (Vatikan) di dunia. Tapi ada pula yang mendapatkan reputasi buruk, salah satunya kota paling bau di dunia.

Situs travel Skyscanner.com, seperti dilansir Courier Mail menyebut, ada lima kota yang dianggap memiliki aroma paling tidak sedap di dunia. Meski begitu, kota ini tetap jadi salah satu destinasi wisata yang terkenal. Tapi kota-kota ini tentu saja bukan pilihan pertama jika Anda mengharapkan liburan di tempat dengan udara sejuk dan segar.

1. Cancun, Meksiko

Cancun terkenal di kalangan para turis asing karena keindahan pantai dan atmosfer pestanya yang kuat. Tapi tak hanya itu, Cancun juga populer karena baunya yang tidak sedap. Konon, bau menyengat yang sering tercium di kota pantai yang terletak di bagian selatan Meksiko ini berasal dari got bawah tanah yang berada di area hotel-hotel.

2. Venice, Italia

Kota ini memang punya reputasi sebagai kota yang indah dan romantis. Tapi sebaiknya jangan mengunjungi Venice di pada musim panas. Pada periode itu, sistem sanitari atau pompa pembersih sampah sedang melakukan tugas rutinnya. Yaitu membuang semua kotoran langsung ke kanal. Di cuaca panas, aroma ‘aneh’ yang menyengat akan lebih tajam tercium.

3. Rotorua, Selandia Baru

Rotorua adalah sebuah kota di tepi selatan Danau Rotorua di region Bay of Plenty, Pulau Utara Selandia Baru. Kota ini terkenal dengan tempat pemandian air panasnya yang spektakuler. Namun, para turis sepertinya akan sedikit terganggu dengan bau-bauan yang sepintas mirip aroma telur busuk. Hal itu disebabkan emisi hidrogen sulfida dari geyser. Karena bau belerang yang sangat menyengat, Rotorua juga dikenal dengan sebutan “Kota Sulfur”.

4. St Helen Auckland, Durham

St Helen Auckland, mungkin bukan destinasi liburan yang tepat jika yang Anda butuhkan adalah udara yang segar. Hampir sebagian besar pertanian lokal memproduksi bawang, sehingga desa kecil ini pun berbau seperti bawang yang sudah tengik. Beberapa turis yang pernah berkunjung ke sini mewanti-wanti, ada kalanya mereka tidak bisa meninggalkan rumah, bahkan tidak berani membuka jendela karena bau yang sangat menyengat dan menusuk hidung.

5. Cote-D’or, Prancis

Daerah di bagian selatan Prancis ini sering berbau kurang sedap karena merupakan pusat produksi keju paling bau di dunia. Nama keju tersebut adalah The Epoisses de Bourgogne. Baunya sangat tidak enak, sehingga makanan yang satu ini dilarang untuk dibawa dalam transportasi umum.

Pabrikan mobil asal China, Geely siap membuat mobil murah sejagat dan menyebar ancaman untuk pesaingnya.

Mobil anyar mereka Intelligent Geely (IG) yang sebelumnya tampil di ajang otomotif bergengsi Beijing Auto Show siap diproduksi pada 2012 dan dipasarkan 2013 mendatang. Mobil ini begitu memikat, apalagi target harga mobil ini juga sangat murah yakni hanya sebesar 10.000 RMB atau sekitar Rp13 jutaan saja.

Bila dilihat dari harganya, IG hampir sama dengan harga sebuah motor di Indonesia. Dan ternyata PT Geely Mobil Indonesia (GMI) pun tidak menutup kemungkinan akan mendatangkan mobil ini ke Indonesia. "IG siap dipasarkan 2013 nanti dengan harga 10.000 yuan. Bisa saja kita masukan juga kesini," ujar Presiden Direktur PT. Geely Mobil Indonesia (GMI) A Budi Pramono.

Selama ini baru pabrikan Jepang yang semangat untuk mengikuti program mobil murah pemerintah, namun kini pabrikan mobil asal China, Geely pun tertarik. Wajar saja, karena mereka memiliki sebuah mobil konsep berharga hanya Rp13 jutaan saja. Apalagi pemerintah menargetkan harga mobil murah yang akan dibantu sekitar Rp75 jutaan.

Harga itu tentu masih jauh lebih tinggi dari harga mobil Intelligent Geely (IG) yang rencananya akan dijual dengan harga 10.000 RMB atau sekitar Rp13 jutaan saja. Hal tersebut diungkapkan Presiden Direktur PT Geely Mobil Indonesia (GMI) A Budi Pramono kepada wartawn.

"Kami sangat tertarik dengan program itu, tapi masalahnya kan kebijakan pemerintah itu belum jelas detailnya. Kalau sudah jelas, kami pasti akan ikut gabung," dilansir dari detikOto. Lebih lanjut, Budi pun menjelaskan bahwa IG bisa sangat bersaing dengan kompetitor mereka, terlebih dengan harga dasar Rp 13 jutaan, kemungkinan dengan kondisi perpajakan seperti sekarang ini, harga IG di Indonesia masih bisa sekitar Rp25 jutaan saja.

"Kami hanya kalah nama dengan merek Jepang, tapi kalau urusan itu, kita bisa bersaing. Apalagi dengan harga dasar segitu," tandas Budi. Dengan harga serendah itu pun, Geely terbilang masih bebas berimprovisasi terhadap produknya ini.

"Bila pun harganya mau dinaikan sedikit agar IG dapat semua fitur full spek terkini, tetap saja harga mobil ini masih terjangkau," pungkasnya.

"Tapi di versi produksinya kemungkinan IG akan dibuat dengan mesin bensin berkapasitas 800-900 cc, bisa juga kita minta mesin yang lebih besar," pungkas Direktur PT Geely Mobil Indonesia Richard Yang
